Our Story
Established in 2015, The Scoop Pet Health & Wellness Center was opened by Dr. Pete VanVranken of Dickman Road Veterinary Clinic in Battle Creek, Michigan. As a veterinarian for more than 35 years, Dr. Pete saw major health issues in pets caused directly, and indirectly by the foods they were being fed. His own dog Cookie, a rescue dog from a local shelter, passed away due to ingestion of manufactured food that contained copper, which built up in Cookies system and eventually caused her death. Dr. Pete took a stance. He wanted to provide a place where pet owners could get quality, safe food and informative pet education, along with convenient drive through service.
We believe that every pet deserves quality, safe food! Not all pet foods are good for your pet. Be sure you are feeding your pet, not only the right amount and kind, but food that is produced by companies with integrity, those doing everything in their power to ensure there is nothing in their pet food that can harm your 4-legged family member. Promise yourself—next year at this time, your pet will be on a diet of only safe food!

Dr. Pete is a 1974 graduate of MSU and the founder of Dickman Road Veterinary Clinic. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children along with 3 dogs, and 3 cats. Dr VanVranken enjoys playing basketball, MSU sports, and old cars. His favorite part of the job is seeing a patient go home after surviving a critical condition and helping people through problems. His least favorite part is seeing animal abuse and people who don’t take proper care of their pets.

Beth - Store Manager
Beth leads the team with her experience in search and rescue missions and will assist you in finding everything you need to keep your pets' healthy and happy!
Ken - Pet Wellness Associate
Ken cares for 3 healthy dogs of his own and is a knowledgeable, experienced associate at The Scoop. He is passionate about helping others find whatever they need for their pets.
Chelsea - Pet Wellness Associate
Whether you need basic obedience training or help with behavior issues, our experienced associate, Chelsea, can work with you in selecting the right products to achieve your pet's health goals.
